By Christine Burns

Visiting South America is a dream come true for the average travel enthusiast. With a plethora of breathtaking sites, it is no secret why this is so. Here are a few places you might want to explore during your Latin America adventure travel.

The continent is home to some highly rated travel destinations that include Uruguay, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Peru. When you travel to Peru, you get to explore the historic Inca trail. This site sits at the upper slopes of the Andes. It is part of Machu Picchu, a prehistoric Inca city.

Its beauty is what makes it unique. There is an air of mystery that also surrounds its location and complex design. Many find it a mystery why the locals went to such lengths to construct the city in such as remote area. Navigating the trail can be a challenging affair, which is why many adventurers like to visit it.

The Amazon makes for a key attraction in South America too. There is hardly an accomplished adventurer who has not explored its course. It traverses a total distance of five and a half million square kilometers spread over 9 countries. 30 percent of the global plant and wildlife species are found within this ecosystem.

A big river and a rainforest make up the ecosystem. The Amazon River snakes through the rainforest over a number of countries. It is known to be the most diverse ecosystem globally owing to the diverse plant, fish and snake species found within it. One can enjoy an uninterrupted view of the expansive ecosystem from atop the tall canopies.

The Iguazu Fall, another interesting site, can be found at the Brazilian and Argentinean border. The imposing size of the waterfalls always leaves one in awe. There is a fear element that creeps in you as you listen to the cascading waterfalls roar. The cascades travel for 3 kilometers via the jungle. The best part of it all is that one need not stand far to watch the waterfalls thanks to the intricately constructed boardwalks close by.

Like its neighboring countries, Bolivia is also home to some wonderful sites. One must see site is the Uyuni Salt Flats. The entire site was once a lake that covered a vast swathe of southwest Bolivia. When it rains, the expansive white plain gets transformed into a mega mirror. The resulting landscape looks out of this world.

When in the continent, many adventurists like to venture to the Galapagos Islands. These islands host lots of marine creatures and birds. Make a detour to the area to check out the friendly tortoises and sea lions. Snorkeling is an interesting activity to partake in thanks to the surrounding clear waters. Penguins and iguanas are also in plenty.

Rio de Janeiro should be the hallmark of your tour. A popular local attraction is the Copacabana beach. It is often flocked by visiting tourists. The city is renowned for the Christ the Redeemer statue, a divine looking monument situated at the nearby Corcovado Mountain.
