However, one must be careful as not to catch dolphins because they are a protected species by the law in many countries. They cannot be caught for sport, food, or research.

Other features to look out for while at the ocean are rocks, wrecks, and reefs. These structures offer good places for various species of fish to stay and hide from strong ocean currents. Artificial structures also offer good grounds for hiding. The various species of fish need different methods to be caught. One should consider applying several methods at once or changing the method they use if nothing if caught in a while.

There are several laws that govern how this sport can be practiced. Laws vary from one country to another, but they are the same in all the 50 states of the United States. One should carry a guide to ensure that they do not break any of the laws to avoid getting into trouble.
