Commercial divers do so as a profession. They construct underwater structures like oil platforms, conduct surveys, undertake underwater maintenance and map creation. They also take part in salvaging operations and other snorkeling related occupations. Military snorkeling is the same as the commercial one but there are additional tasks like underwater surveillance, military research and mine clearing. Scientists and military divers are responsible for many of the advances that have been realized in dive medicine and dive equipment.

Snorkelers are aged from 8 years and above. The dive programs for those aged eight years involve shallow water safety instructions. When they reach 10 years they are given a certificate as junior divers in open water. By age 15 they are fully qualified and are certified in open water dive. There is no limit on the upper age.

For one to be able to do this, they need to be of good health. They should not be suffering from any chronic ailments. They are asked to fill a medical questionnaire when they begin training. If the instructor gets any concerns he refers you to a medical practitioner who does the assessments.

Those with some forms of disabilities can also dive. Training is available for the physically challenged. They have the goal of facilitating and promoting snorkeling among individuals with physical disabilities. They should not be left out.

Some scuba divers are in constant search for beauty of reefs and marine creatures. This is what guides discovery in wrecks and caves. Though everyone has differing reasons for snorkeling, they all do it because they enjoy being under water. It is a hidden world to others who do not dive. Some of them relax while taking photographs of creatures there. There are so many wonders like schools of sharks, colored fish and other creatures. So whatever reason you have for starting to dive, you should be a lover of heights and deep waters.
