A Look At Attractions In Fort Myers Florida

By Jony Mozen

Whether you are traveling to Florida for business or pleasure there are certain activities that cannot be missed. This state is located in the core of our nations vacation center. One of the cities that offer some of the best activities is Fort Myers Florida. This city has a wide variety of activities designed to satisfy the tastes of all who visit.

The first and arguably most popular attraction for this city are the beautiful beaches found here. With the beaches come water sports like para-sailing, jet boating and chartered fishing tours. The fishing charters give fishermen access to deep sea game as well as shallow water species that are found closer to shore. Another activity found near the beaches is fine dining. Many restaurants located nearby face the ocean and provide scenic views along with gourmet meals for their guests.

The Edison Ford Winter Estates can provide a full day of activities that include historical gardens, buildings and a museum. The botanical gardens contain over five hundred unique plants, flowers and trees. They also have an orchid program and propagation greenhouse that is open to the public and shopping opportunities are available in the gift shops. Visitors are able to tour the winter retreat homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford among other buildings on the property.

A nature based and slightly more adventurous type of activity can be found in abundance. The Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve contains alligators, wild hogs and multiple exotic birds that live in this area. They have created a walk board that runs over a mile into the slough ending in a blind that allows photography opportunities of wild life for guests. Boat tours are also available throughout the day. Visitors are able to view and photograph egrets and herons during periods of low water seasons.

The Nature Park at the Shell Factory contains a rain forest aviary containing hundreds of rare and beautiful birds. Additionally, they have a butterfly garden, animal museum and a petting zoo for children. Another nature based adventure available is the Manatee World tours. The boat tours travel daily into their habitat. Manatees are endangered and therefore protected by law so the tours are designed to cause as little disturbance to them as possible.

This city sponsors guided tours of historical nature for tourists. They cover historical buildings during one tour, another covers the major pieces of art scattered around the town and a third guides guests to purported haunted homes and sites in the city. There is an Art Center in the mid-city that exhibits works from local and outside artists.

Other activities available might include air boat rides into the Everglades or a similar day safari on a river boat. On these tours you are allowed to bring a cooler with you while the insect repellent is provided by the crew. There are casino cruises available also. These five hour tours include lunch and dinner buffets and provide professional style roulette, black jack and slot machines. There are two tours a day available for gamblers and their families.

Regardless of your activity level you will find enough things to do here to make your visit exciting and memorable.
