The Importance Of Horseback Riding Private Lessons

By Ruthie Calderon

During leisure time people like to do things that help them relax or unwind. That is why you are likely to see people engaging in sports or entertaining activities like swimming, playing golf, racing, dancing, watching movies etc. However, some people take these activities as their careers and take the necessary measures to improve on them. A good example is people who seek or take horseback riding private lessons.

A simplified definition of horseback riding is when a person moves from one place to the other on the back of a horse. In terms of sports a sportsman can define it as the art of racing on the back of a horse while he or she controlling it. It is preferred in racing because it has a high speed.

The private lessons can be taken by anyone that is, children and adults. But for children who are below six years old they should ride with the company of an adult like their mom or dad or the coach. This is so because they are unable to control the horse by themselves.

There are a lot of benefits that people get through this kind of sport or activity. They are; it helps in coordination and stability; when the rider balance it provides stability and the strength used in the thigh and leg develops coordination. Another benefit is that a relationship starts developing between the horse and the rider; when the rider rides it more often, a strong relationship and trust is developed.

The other important benefit is that it helps a rider gain self-esteem, confidence and courage. This is so especially for first time riders as riding can be challenging at first but being able to overcome it builds courage, self-esteem and confidence in that they want to face more new challenges that may be ahead of them.

The risks however that a rider might face while riding a horse are; it can race faster than expected making it hard to control and might end up throwing the rider down causing some serious injuries on him or her. Other than throwing the rider down he/she might get dizzy after the fast race. The horse can also get scared of something it meets on its way as it was racing and throw the person on his back down.

These incidents can cause serious and permanent injuries on an individual both physically and mentally like in a case where the person becomes confined to a wheelchair as a result of race with the horse. The individual becomes traumatized to the extent of causing fear when he or she comes close to this animal.

Though risks are there the likelihood of them occurring are minimal while the benefits are guaranteed that is why a first timer should not think so much of the risks rather concentrate on the benefits especially if they are under the care of an expert. All they need to do is wear the right clothes and know what to do in case something happens.
