Tips For A Great Whale Watching Experience

By Claudine Hodges

Any event needs preparation. And while watching whales is not that big of an event, the need to have a quality time while you do it is a must. After all, it is what relaxation is all about. You should not dread the idea of preparing. In fact, you can make it a fun activity in itself.

There could be several tips to keep in mind during the preparation. The area by which you decide to do the watching can be a very important factor. So selecting the recommended places to do it such as that of the popular Juneau Alaska whale watching matters. Today, we will take a look at some of the things you can include on your preparation.

First, consider the location. Not all seas and ocean are frequently visited by whales. There are some areas that are best known for the activity and some which are not. Be sure to do prior research as to the best location to ensure that you will see what you come for.

Two, are the kind of foods you will have to bring. You cannot afford to be hungry while on the waters. You do not know when whales will show up, and you want to be at your best the moment they do. Bring snacks or packed meals depending on the time and the preference of your family.

Third, check the weather forecast. You wish to have a great time while on the sea. However, this may not be possible during a bad weather. Moreover, operators of whale watching activities may cancel your viewing schedule. Having an idea of the weather condition beforehand will help you plan the appropriate time to have the activity.

Fourth, are your gadgets. In the digital age where photos are more captivating than text, getting good shots will matter a lot especially for your social media account updates. Do not forget to carry with you your cameras and smartphones. If you come in groups, it will be good if each of you brings his own. This way, you will have more options.

Five, dress for the occasion. Knowing the weather is one. Getting the right clothing considering the weather is another thing. If the weather is fine, you may want to wear something light and comfortable. If it is windy, then a spare sweater might be good. Also, bring sunscreens to make sure you protect your skin from too much heat.

Sixth, hope for the best but do not fret for the unexpected. While we enjoy the idea of getting those great photos of jumping whales just like what we see on magazines, there is a possibility that your trip might not yield the satisfaction that you hope for. There will be times when whales just do not feel like showing themselves. If what you are looking for are choreographed movements of dolphins or whales hopping from a point to another, then the best area for this might be on the aquarium or at a marine park.

Gear up for a great experience with these wonderful sea creatures. Get the best of what you deserve by preparing in advance. Make a checklist and be sure you got everything covered.
